INFERTILITY Consultation

Infertility is defined as the inability to get pregnant after one year
of unprotected sexual contact. If you are trying to conceive for a year
or more, you should consider an infertility assessment. However, if you
are older than 35, you should consider starting infertility assessment
after approximately six months of unprotected sexual contact, to avoid
delaying of potential treatment. If you have reason to suspect a basic
problem, you should seek care early.

IN VITRO FERTILISATION (IVF)

IVF is a method of assisted reproduction in which a man's sperm and a
woman's oocytes are combined outside the body in the laboratory. One or
more fertilized oocytes (embryos) can be transferred into the uterus of
the woman, where they can be implanted into the uterine mucosa and can
develop. Excess embryos can be cryopreserved (frozen) for further use.

CHILDREN ENDOCRINOLOGY

The diagnosis of endocrinological diseases in children is an extremely
important aspect due to the impact that these undiagnosed and treated
diseases in time can have in the long term or even in adult life. Thus,
growth hormone deficiency that generates short stature, hypothyroidism
especially when it occurs at an early age or puberty disorders are just
a few examples of endocrine disorders that can cause long-term sequelae
in the absence of a proper approach.

POLYCYSTIC OVARY SYNDROME

To be diagnosed with PCOS, a woman must have 2 of 3 possible problems:
chronic lack of ovulation (anovulation), high chronic levels of
testosterone (hyperandrogenism), and ovaries with multiple micro-cysts
   (polycystic).

   Turner Syndrome

   18/07/2021

It is also called Monosomy X or Bonnevie-Ullrich Syndrome and is found
in females. It is determined by the presence of a single-sex
chromosome, 45X0, instead of two (normally 46, XX in women), is the
only known viable monosomy (absence of an X chromosome in each of the
   body's cells).

   ONLINE CONSULTATION

   18/07/2021

Telemedicine has helped to streamline healthcare. Our initiative
implements the electronic patient portal (PPE) for patients who are
scheduled to undergo assisted reproduction treatment and beyond, to
reduce waiting time for consultation and medical treatment.

   Noonan syndrome

   17/07/2021

It is also called male Turner Syndrome or female pseudo-Turner
Syndrome, is characterized by a Turner phenotype with normal karyotype.
The phenotype is the set of characteristics characteristic of an
individual, determined by heredity and environmental conditions. The
karyotype is the schematic arrangement of the chromosomes of a species.

   Endometriosis

   17/07/2021

Endometriosis is a condition that is often painful, in which tissue
similar to that covering the inside of the uterus, the endometrium,
grows outside the uterus. Endometriosis most commonly affects the
ovaries, fallopian tubes and the tissue that covers the pelvis, but
also the bladder, rectum and intestines. This endometrial-like tissue
   behaves...

   Male Infertility

   10/07/2021

Almost 1 in 7 couples are infertile, meaning they failed to conceive
after a year of unprotected sex. In almost half of these couples there
is at least one male cause. The causes could be the reduced amount of
sperm (small volume), abnormal parameters of sperm, blockages that
prevent the delivery of sperm (obstructions), various diseases,...

   Egg Donation

   10/07/2021

Oocyte donation is becoming more widespread, especially among women
over 40 years of age. It began to be practiced in the early 1980s. The
first birth from donated oocytes was reported in 1983 in Australia and
1984 in the USA. Since then, many couples struggling with infertility
have been able to conceive using this technique. Oocyte donation
   means...

   HOW WE BEHAVE DURING PREGNANCY

THE IMPACT OF SMOKING ON FERTILITY

   04/07/2021

The infertility rate is higher in the case of smokers, and the duration
of the conception period is also longer. Smoking women have low
fertility. The risk of miscarriage is higher in pregnant smokers.
Newborns of smoking women weigh on average 200g less than those of
non-smoking women, low birth weight is an important predictor of
   infant...

   CARRIER SCREENING

   13/06/2021

Carrier screening is a genetic test that identifies people who carry
genes for a particular genetic condition. Most carrier screening tests
are performed for recessively transmitted diseases. Recessively
transmitted diseases are conditions that require the inheritance of two
genes, one from each parent (one from the mother and one from the
   father),...
